The ACLC has played a leadership role in forming community coalitions and advocating for the African Canadian community on key issues such as the following:
- civilian oversight of police
- police use of deadly force
- arbitrary immigration detention
- racial profiling by police and customs officers
- Impact on African Canadian children of the "safe schools" provisions of the Education Act
- hate crimes against African Canadians
